NBA YoungBoy Says He’ll Never Speak To His Mother Again, Then She Dragged His Kids Into Their Family War

NBA YoungBoy opened up to Funny Marco about accepting the end of his relationship with his mother, but her public response quickly turned the vulnerable moment into a bitter family confrontation.

Their feud became public in a deeply personal way when NBA YoungBoy told the podcast that he has accepted the possibility that he and his mother, Sherhonda Gaulden, will never speak again. YoungBoy explained that his relationship with his mother once contributed heavily to the anger he carried. Rather than blaming one recent argument, he described reaching a point where he stopped expecting their relationship to become what he had wanted it to be.

“I think my relationship with my mama used to be a big part of my anger. Until I told myself it’s just certain s**t you can’t fix. Certain people you’re not going to just bond with in a way that you expect or the way that you desire.”

YoungBoy then said he decided the healthiest option for him was to love his mother without maintaining contact with her.

“So I started loving my mom from a distance, like today I’ll never in like speak to her again, like we’ll never talk again. I know this for a fact. But I love her. I care. I hope she know that too. I want her to know that.”

His comments suggested resignation more than rage. YoungBoy also made a point of saying his decision was no longer tied to money, trauma, or an old grievance that he was still trying to resolve.

“It ain’t got nothing to do with no dollar, it ain’t got nothing to do with my trauma no more or something that I was supposedly angry about. Just love them because that’s my grandmother daughter and I love my grandma deeply.”

That reference to his grandmother adds important context to the YoungBoy family feud. According to The FADER, YoungBoy was eight when his father was serving a lengthy prison sentence and his mother moved away from their neighborhood, leaving him in the care of his maternal grandmother. YoungBoy told the outlet that his grandmother spoiled him while his mother was the parent who disciplined him. His grandmother died from heart failure in 2010.

That history makes YoungBoy’s wording especially revealing. Even while saying he expects no future relationship with Sherhonda, he connected the love he still has for her to the woman who helped raise him.

Sherhonda, however, heard his comments differently.

In a video posted to her Instagram account, Sherhonda addressed her son by his real first name, Kentrell, accused him of lying about her online, and brought his relationship with his children into the dispute.

“Kentrell, you don’t talk to me or you don’t talk to your f**king kids? Quit playing with me on this internet. I let you lie on me too many motherf**king times. I wouldn’t down there when you did that, that video with that man? That man wouldn’t in your kitchen while I was in your kitchen? Quit playing with me, bro. I don’t give a f**k if you don’t never call me. Just stop lying on me, bro.”

Her response also did not address his broader explanation about accepting that the relationship could not be repaired. Instead, she disputed the impression that they had no contact and insisted she had been around him when the Funny Marco interview was filmed.

During a later Instagram Live with Funny Marco, YoungBoy reacted angrily to his mother mentioning his children. The rapper insisted that his original comments had not attacked her and questioned why she responded by discussing his role as a father.

“I ain’t say nothing wrong about this stupid a** hoe. All I said, I never talk to this b***h again. She come on that b***h talking about, ‘Oh, about my kids.’ What the f**k my kids got to do with anything, dumb a** h*e? What the f**k is wrong with you, man?”

He then disputed Sherhonda’s description of being around when the interview happened before making much more serious allegations about their relationship behind closed doors.

“Then this b***h gonna say she was right there while we did the interview. B***h you ain’t never been to career day in your life. A lot of people don’t even know my relationship was her. I seen this stupid a** h*e spit in my grandma’s face. This stupid a** b***h spit in my face before. I ain’t got no love for that h*e. I don’t give no f**k.”

The livestream grew even more heated when YoungBoy addressed people he said were threatening to confront him because of the way he spoke about his mother.

Boy, I will kill your stupid a**. You better ask her. You better ask her, man, I’ll kill your stupid a**. You better mind your motherf**king business.”

This is also not the first time tension between YoungBoy and Sherhonda has spilled onto social media. In November 2019, Sherhonda said YoungBoy had kicked her out of a home he purchased for her after the two argued. Sherhonda said at the time that she would rather leave the home than feel that money was being held over her head.

The older dispute gives the YoungBoy family feud a longer public history, but his Funny Marco interview offered a different look at what may be underneath the arguments. Before the insults, allegations, and social media responses, YoungBoy was talking about disappointment. He described learning that being related to someone does not guarantee the bond a person wants from them.
