Offset may not want to rejoice just yet, as his legal troubles are technically easing in one courtroom but stacking up everywhere else.
The rapper walked out of a Los Angeles courtroom this week with probation instead of prison time, closing the criminal chapter of a case that started with a wild altercation at a weed dispensary near LAX more than a year ago.
Court records show Offset, whose legal name is Kiari Cephus, was ordered to serve 12 months of probation. The judge also ordered him to stay away from the dispensary where the incident happened, avoid making threats against anyone, and steer clear of owning or possessing any weapon. On top of that, he has to pay restitution in an amount that has not been made public, finish an anger management course, and complete 50 hours of community service.
The case traces back to March 2025, when Offset was accused of attacking a security guard named Jim Sanchez during a visit to a MedMen dispensary. Sanchez said Offset became “hostile” after being asked to show identification, then struck him in the face while members of his entourage jumped in. Offset has denied the allegations from the start, and his team has maintained that Sanchez escalated things first by shoving him and spitting in his face, which is what triggered the physical response.
The sentence comes through a diversion program, meaning the misdemeanor charge could eventually be wiped from his record entirely if he completes every condition without incident over the next year. He pleaded not guilty and has not admitted to any wrongdoing as part of the deal. Prosecutors saw it differently. The altercation was described in court filings as a “crime of violence against the victim” while opposing his request for diversion, though the judge ultimately approved it anyway.
That is where Offset legal troubles start to look far from finished. Sanchez filed a separate civil lawsuit back in November accusing Offset of assault, battery, and intentional infliction of emotional distress, and that case remains active in civil court no matter how the criminal side wrapped up. Sanchez is seeking damages that reportedly exceed $25,000, citing ongoing headaches, neck pain, and medical bills tied to a hospital visit he says followed the altercation.
The dispensary case is really just the most recent chapter. Offset legal troubles have piled up fast over the past several months, and most of the newer ones involve money rather than a physical altercation. In April, he was shot in the leg outside the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Florida following a confrontation connected to gambling debts, an incident that left him hospitalized with injuries that were not life threatening.
Days before that shooting, Detroit’s MotorCity Casino Hotel filed its own lawsuit against Offset accusing him of breach of contract and fraud. The casino claims Offset opened a $100,000 credit line during a visit in 2024 and never paid it back, and when staff tried to withdraw the funds directly from his account as agreed, the transaction failed for insufficient funds. A representative for Offset told reporters the team was “working toward a resolution” on the debt, though no settlement has been publicly confirmed.
That casino suit adds to a financial picture that already included a federal tax problem. According to Casino.org, Offset previously faced a federal tax lien of more than $1.5 million in unpaid income taxes, which multiple reports say he has since resolved. Still, the timing of everything landing in the same stretch, a shooting, a six figure casino suit, and a pending civil case tied to the dispensary assault, keeps the Offset legal troubles narrative very much alive even after a favorable sentencing.
Adding to the noise, former NFL wide receiver Dez Bryant and radio personality Ebro Darden have both publicly claimed Offset owes them money from gambling wagers, though neither has filed a lawsuit and those claims remain unverified. He was also reportedly into rapper Lil Tjay for $10,000 from a separate bet, a debt some reports have connected to the tension that led to the Florida shooting in the first place.
For now, Offset can check one box off a growing list. The probation and community service from the dispensary case may keep him out of a cell, but between an active civil suit, a six figure casino lawsuit, and a string of gambling debts still trailing behind him, Offset legal troubles are nowhere close to over.
