BloodHound PoohMan, a Chicago drill figure tied to the BloodHound and DrillCity circle, was shot and killed Friday night, just hours after mourners laid his associate Q50 to rest. Chicago drill news outlet SquiidApe TV identified him as Naseem Thomas, 26. Chicago police have not publicly released the victim’s name.
Police say the shooting happened around 7 p.m. in the 7500 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue in Greater Grand Crossing. The 26 year old was standing near his car outside a business when a black sedan carrying two men pulled up. Someone inside pulled a gun and opened fire.
He jumped into his car and drove off, but the gunmen followed. Police say they kept shooting at him through traffic. He was hit in the back and the knee, and his car crashed into a pole in the 7400 block of South Cottage Grove, about a block from where the attack started. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
The shooters escaped in the sedan. No arrests have been made, and Area Two detectives are investigating.
The timing is what has the city talking. Earlier that same day, family and friends gathered in Northwest Indiana for Q50’s funeral. The 22 year old rapper, born Mikquale, was shot and killed in Chicago on September 13. He grew up between Chicago and Northwest Indiana, and his homegoing drew enough concern that several Indiana police departments got involved. Merrillville police provided security for the procession, which ended at Calumet Park Cemetery. The department’s assistant chief said officers usually handle precautions like this quietly, but a funeral for a well known figure on a major road called for extra caution.
That service went off without incident. A few hours later, word began spreading online that BloodHound PoohMan had been killed after returning to Chicago. Drill pages posted the news within an hour of the shooting, and the story spread quickly across X, Instagram and YouTube as fans connected the timeline.
Police have not said whether the killing is connected to Q50’s death or to any ongoing conflict, and they have not named a motive. Anyone with information can contact Area Two detectives.
The back to back losses hit a community that has buried too many young people tied to Chicago drill. Two weeks separated the deaths of Q50 and BloodHound PoohMan, and a funeral meant to close one chapter ended with another family planning a service of their own.
