Yella Beezy’s capital murder case is moving toward another important courtroom date after his trial was pushed back earlier this month. According to the Dallas County Clerk’s office and court documents, the Dallas rapper is scheduled to return to court on October 6. Judge Chika Anyiam is expected to preside over the proceeding before jury selection begins later in the month.
The October 6 appearance comes ahead of the bigger date now circled in the Yella Beezy trial. Court-related reporting says the signed continuance order moved jury selection to October 26, 2026. Beezy, whose legal name is Markies Conway, had previously been scheduled to begin jury selection on September 14 before his attorneys asked Judge Anyiam for additional preparation time.
The delay was not opposed by prosecutors. According to KERA News, both sides wanted access to the transcript from Kewon White’s recently completed capital murder trial, while Beezy’s defense also had an issue involving the availability of an expert witness. Prosecutor Tommy Adams told the court, “We do see that there is a legitimate reason and need for both sides to have it.” Judge Anyiam ultimately granted the continuance.
That transcript could become especially important because White’s prosecution offered a preview of evidence and arguments that may surface during the Yella Beezy trial. A Dallas County jury found White guilty of capital murder on September 4 for killing Mo3, whose legal name was Melvin Noble, on Interstate 35E in 2020. Judge Anyiam sentenced White to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
White’s conviction does not determine Beezy’s guilt. Prosecutors must prove the case against Conway separately, and he has pleaded not guilty. A Dallas County grand jury indicted Conway in March 2025 on a charge of capital murder. The indictment accused him of hiring White to kill Noble. The filing did not explain why authorities believed Conway wanted Noble killed.
The case stretches back to November 11, 2020. Noble was driving on Interstate 35 in south Dallas when White allegedly approached in another vehicle. Police said Noble got out and ran along the freeway as the gunman fired. Noble was fatally wounded, while a bystander inside another vehicle was also struck and survived. White and another man, Devin Brown, were later indicted in connection with Noble’s death.
Prosecutors have since built a broader murder for hire theory around the shooting. During the September continuance hearing, prosecutors stated Conway paid White $40,000 to kill Noble. During White’s trial, investigators also presented financial evidence connected to that allegation, while White’s defense challenged whether the state had proven that money was actually paid or promised in exchange for the killing.
White has publicly disputed a major part of that theory despite his conviction. He has denied that Beezy paid him to kill Mo3. “I didn’t get paid to do nothing, bro,” White said during a livestream post-conviction. His statement does not erase his conviction, but it could become relevant as Conway’s attorneys challenge prosecutors’ claim that the killing was carried out for payment.
Another major issue surrounding the Yella Beezy trial has been how much of the rappers’ music and public statements jurors will be allowed to hear. NBC 5 Dallas Fort Worth reported in July that prosecutors argued certain lyrics supported their theory of motive and a paid killing, while Conway’s attorneys argued that the songs represented artistic expression rather than literal evidence of criminal conduct. Judge Anyiam ultimately allowed some of the disputed music into evidence while excluding other tracks prosecutors had sought to use.
The case against Conway is therefore expected to turn on much more than White’s conviction alone. Prosecutors will still have to establish Conway’s own alleged role in arranging the killing, including the payment theory at the center of the capital murder charge. The defense, meanwhile, will have an opportunity to attack the state’s evidence, its witnesses and any claimed financial connection between Conway and White.
For now, the Yella Beezy trial remains on track to reach jury selection on October 26. Before then, the reported October 6 court appearance could offer another look at which witnesses, evidence, and unresolved legal issues will shape one of the most closely followed criminal cases involving Dallas hip-hop in years.
