Nearly three years after rapper Young Dolph was gunned down in Memphis, the man authorities say orchestrated the hit still hasn’t faced trial.
Hernandez Govan, charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy, was set to stand trial on July 28th. That date is now being used for a report hearing, with the trial pushed to August 18th, 2025, per AllHipHop.
No reason for the postponement has been officially disclosed. Govan declined a plea deal back in December 2024 and opted to take his case to trial.
Three others have already been convicted. Justin “Straight Drop” Johnson received life plus 50 years for first-degree murder and other charges. Jemarcus Johnson was sentenced to a six-year diversion program after pleading guilty to being an accessory. Cornelius Smith, who admitted to his role and testified against Johnson, claimed they were promised $40,000 each but only received $800. He also alleged Yo Gotti’s CMG label paid for his legal defense.
Smith remains in custody and is expected to testify against Govan. Meanwhile, Shundale Barnett, another suspect, was arrested earlier this year and faced multiple charges after a warrant from 2022. His charges related to Dolph’s murder have been dropped.
