Yung Miami Calls Album Of The Year Early: How “Tea Time” And “Spend Dat” Set The Stage For "Watch Dis"

Yung Miami is putting the pressure on herself as she prepares to release her debut solo album, “Watch Dis.” With the rapper declaring, “AOTY drops in 11 days!!!,” Caresha Brownlee is making it clear that she believes her upcoming project belongs in the Album of the Year conversation.

Scheduled for October 23, 2026, “Watch Dis” represents a defining moment for the former City Girls rapper. After years of facing questions about her ability to succeed independently, Yung Miami has spent 2026 building momentum through viral releases, growing fan engagement, and her biggest solo hit to date.

Much of that momentum can be traced to two records: “Tea Time” and “Spend Dat.” While the songs found success in different ways, both helped establish the personality, confidence, and musical direction behind her upcoming album.

According to Billboard’s interview with Yung Miami, “Tea Time,” released in February 2026, was designed to generate conversation and remind listeners of her cultural influence. Miami described the song as a cultural reset, explaining that she wanted people talking and participating in the moment.

The record leaned into her unapologetic personality, delivering the kind of outspoken energy that helped make her a familiar name beyond music. Although “Tea Time” did not produce major Billboard Hot 100 success, it generated social media attention and helped reintroduce Yung Miami as an artist developing her own identity.

For Caresha, that visibility mattered. She was no longer promoting music alongside JT, and every release carried additional pressure to demonstrate what she could accomplish on her own.

The transition had been building for years.

In 2021, Miami released “Rap Freaks,” a provocative solo record that reached No. 81 on the Billboard Hot 100. She later followed with “50/50” and her Skilla Baby collaboration “CFWM” in 2024, continuing to experiment with her sound while navigating public criticism.

However, “Spend Dat” became the record that significantly changed the conversation.

Released in April 2026 and produced by J White Did It, the single quickly developed into a viral summer anthem. Its catchy hook, club appeal, and Miami-influenced production helped the song spread across social media and reach audiences beyond her established fan base.

According to Universal Music’s official album announcement, “Spend Dat” peaked at No. 17 on the Billboard Hot 100 and reached No. 2 on Billboard’s Hot Rap Songs chart. The song also reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Rap Airplay chart, marking a major commercial breakthrough for her solo career.

The record’s popularity created opportunities for additional exposure. Yung Miami expanded the single with an official remix featuring Lil Baby and Kodak Black, followed by an international version featuring Davido, Shenseea, and Vybz Kartel.

The contrast between “Tea Time” and “Spend Dat” is particularly important to her album rollout. One demonstrated her ability to spark online conversation, while the other translated that visibility into measurable chart success.

Together, they helped strengthen anticipation for a full project, although official album presale figures have not established how much demand each individual single generated.

The response also influenced Miami creatively. In her Billboard interview, she explained that the success of “Spend Dat” encouraged her to revisit the album’s direction and reconnect with the Miami culture that shaped her.

That connection is reflected in “Watch Dis,” which draws from Southern hip hop, club music, personal experiences, and the confident delivery listeners associate with Caresha.

The album will feature 20 tracks and appearances from Quavo, G Herbo, Lil Baby, Kodak Black, Shenseea, and Vybz Kartel.

Miami has also continued introducing new music ahead of the release. On October 2, she dropped “F You” and “2008,” with the latter reuniting her with “Spend Dat” producer J White.

The rollout reflects an artist determined to make her debut more than a collection of singles.

In her official album announcement, Miami addressed the criticism that followed her solo transition.

“Every tear. Every lesson. Every heartbreak. Every time I felt counted out. Every time somebody made me feel like I wasn’t enough. I put it all in the music. This is my story. My first solo album. My comeback. My truth. To everybody who counted me out… THANK YOU! To everybody who never stopped believing in me… this is for you. Now Watch Dis.”

That confidence now sits at the center of her Album of the Year ambitions.

While “Tea Time” reminded audiences of her ability to create conversation, “Spend Dat” delivered the commercial breakthrough that strengthened her position as a solo artist. The combination has given Yung Miami a stronger foundation heading into her debut than she had at the beginning of the year.

Whether “Watch Dis” ultimately lives up to her bold declaration will depend on the music itself. But after years of being questioned, Caresha is entering this chapter with chart success, renewed attention, and an opportunity to show exactly what she can accomplish without the City Girls name.
