Rod Wave and NBA YoungBoy could be thinking much bigger than another collaboration, with Wave publicly teasing the possibility of the two artists joining forces for a stadium tour.
The conversation started after Akademiks floated the idea of putting the two stars on the road together. Akademiks wrote, “A YB x ROD WAVE tour. Just take my bank account!” He added, “Matter of fact an album, EP… we need dis!”
Rod Wave’s response was short, but it immediately gave fans something much bigger to discuss.
“I told yb we going stadium,” Wave wrote.
The Rod Wave and NBA YoungBoy stadium tour is far from official. As of September 28, no tour dates, venues, ticket information, or formal announcement have surfaced.
Still, the idea carries extra weight because these are not two artists being randomly paired together for ticket sales. Rod Wave and YoungBoy have spent years building a musical relationship rooted in similar emotional territory, collaborations, and public admiration for each other.
Their recorded history stretches back to “Everything Different,” released through Kawhi Leonard’s “Culture Jam” project in May 2021. The track brought Rod Wave and YoungBoy together on a record that officially arrived May 28, 2021. The collaboration offered an early glimpse at how naturally their melodic approaches could coexist.
They reunited in 2022 when Rod appeared on “Home Ain’t Home” from YoungBoy’s “The Last Slimeto.” According to YoungBoy and Rod Wave’s documented discographies, the song became another official collaboration between the pair and reached No. 47 on the Billboard Hot 100.
By November 2023, YoungBoy brought Rod back for “Better Than Ever” on “Decided 2.” Rod’s appearance was especially notable because he was the only featured artist across the 18-track project.
Their connection, however, goes deeper than studio chemistry.
In January 2024, Rod explained that watching YoungBoy early in his own journey helped motivate him to take music more seriously. Rod said an ex-girlfriend was heavily into YoungBoy’s music, which eventually led him to pay closer attention to what the Baton Rouge rapper was doing.
“I just used to be in my living room watching bro’s videos and s**,t and I used to be like damn, he’s turned up. So I tried to turn it up. That’s real s**t,” Rod said.
He continued, “And now we here. It’s crazy bruh how much a n***a took and just used it. Like damn. That’s what made me take s**t serious though, like just seeing other n****s. That s**t inspired me.”
YoungBoy has publicly returned that respect.
During a 2024 interview with Bootleg Kev, YoungBoy praised Rod’s career and connection with his audience. YoungBoy said, “That’s somebody who will be forever winning in the game. I think he love what he do. I think he’s so positive. I think he’s so taking in to the people of how he feel.”
Interestingly, YoungBoy was less convinced at the time that they needed a full collaborative project. He believed his own public image could potentially hurt Rod instead of helping him.
“I think that would be a setback for him. My image f**ked up. I think I gotta stay in my own lane,” YoungBoy said.
More than two years later, Rod is publicly talking about sharing stadiums with him.
The timing also comes after YoungBoy demonstrated his live drawing power on the MASA Tour. The “American YoungBoy” documentary highlighted 42 sold-out arena performances from the tour, along with backstage footage, rehearsals, and YoungBoy’s life between shows.
That history makes Rod’s stadium comment more than a random social media moment. The two artists already have multiple records together, overlapping audiences, years of mutual respect, and a personal connection that predates Rod becoming one of his generation’s biggest melodic rap stars.
For now, fans should treat the Rod Wave and NBA YoungBoy stadium tour as an ambition rather than an announced event. But considering Rod once watched YoungBoy’s videos from his living room for inspiration, the possibility of them eventually standing together in front of a stadium-sized crowd would bring their relationship full circle.
