The Tiffany Haddish DUI case that followed her 2022 arrest in Georgia has finally reached a conclusion, with the comedian accepting a negotiated guilty plea more than four years after the legal battle began.
Haddish appeared in Fayette County court proceedings Tuesday and pleaded guilty to one count of DUI alcohol less safe. Court records cited by the outlet show she had faced seven charges at one point before the negotiated resolution. FOX 5 Atlanta also reported that the remaining traffic charges were dismissed as part of the resolution.
The agreement brings several conditions for Haddish. She received 12 months of probation and must perform community service. She is prohibited from using drugs or alcohol during the probationary period and must undergo a substance abuse evaluation within two months. Haddish must also complete DUI school within four months. The court imposed 24 hours in jail, but she received credit for time already served following her original arrest.
The plea also affects her ability to drive in Georgia. FOX 5 Atlanta reported that her driving privileges in the state were suspended. During the proceeding, Haddish appeared comfortable with the restriction and said she planned to return to Georgia “no time soon.”
Her attorney also pointed to Haddish’s charitable work and community service while addressing the court. According to 11Alive, the attorney said Haddish is “very vocal about her journey and sobriety… taking this very seriously.”
The case dates back to January 14, 2022. Peachtree City police responded around 2:30 a.m. after receiving a report about a driver asleep behind the wheel. Police said an officer later spotted a vehicle matching the description and stopped Haddish as she was pulling into the yard of a residence. She was arrested, booked into the Fayette County Jail, posted bond, and was released.
The legal fight continued for years, and the case underwent a significant evidentiary ruling before reaching Tuesday’s plea. Fayette County State Court Judge Jason B. Thompson ruled in May 2026 that prosecutors could not use the results of one eye based field sobriety test. The judge also suppressed statements Haddish made about marijuana while inside a police vehicle because they were obtained before she had been read her Miranda rights. Other physical sobriety testing remained admissible.
Haddish’s defense later attempted to get the entire case dismissed because of how long it had remained unresolved. FOX 5 Atlanta reported that her attorneys argued the lengthy delay violated her constitutional right to a speedy trial and negatively affected parts of her professional life. Judge Thompson rejected the request in July, finding that defense scheduling conflicts and requests for continuances had also contributed to the case’s lengthy timeline.
The Georgia case was not Haddish’s only driving related legal matter during that period. The Los Angeles Times reported that Haddish was arrested in Beverly Hills in November 2023 after authorities responded to a report involving a vehicle blocking the road. She initially faced two misdemeanor DUI charges. In February 2024, prosecutors dismissed those charges after Haddish pleaded no contest to a reduced misdemeanor vehicle code violation commonly called wet reckless. She received one year of summary probation along with education programs, community service, fines, and fees.
Months after the California resolution, Haddish publicly discussed major lifestyle changes. In an April 2024 interview with People, Haddish said she had stopped drinking and described herself as sober. That background adds context to her attorney’s statements in the Georgia courtroom about the comedian’s sobriety journey.
The case remained open in Georgia despite the California resolution. Her defense continued challenging evidence and the length of the prosecution until Judge Thompson cleared the Fayette County matter to move toward trial in 2026. Instead of putting the remaining accusations before a jury, both sides ultimately reached the negotiated agreement announced Tuesday.
Haddish remains widely recognized for her breakout performance in “Girls Trip” along with roles in “Night School” and “Like a Boss.”
The guilty plea now closes the case that followed her January 2022 arrest, ending more than four years of motions, court appearances, evidentiary disputes, and questions over whether the case would ultimately reach a jury.
