McDonald’s McRib is scheduled to return on November 2, 2026, kicking off another limited run of the barbecue-covered fan favorite. The comeback is expected to last through November 29, 2026, giving customers less than a month to grab the fan favorite before it disappears from menus again.
The limited window is especially important for McRib loyalists because the sandwich has built much of its reputation around never sticking around for long. McDonald’s describes the McRib as seasoned boneless pork dipped in tangy barbecue sauce, then topped with slivered onions and pickles on a toasted homestyle bun.
Availability can vary by location. McDonald’s current McRib product page continues to describe the sandwich as having limited availability and encourages customers to check with their local restaurant to see when it is being offered.
That uncertainty has been part of the McRib experience for decades.
The sandwich has developed a cult following since its introduction in the early 1980s. McDonald’s has repeatedly brought it back for limited runs, sometimes nationwide and sometimes only in specific markets. Its unpredictable schedule has helped turn what could have been another fast food sandwich into an annual event.
McDonald’s leaned heavily into that reputation during its 2022 “Farewell Tour,” presenting the promotion as another possible goodbye to the McRib. However, the company left the door open for another return, and the sandwich eventually resurfaced again.
By December 2024, the McRib was officially back at participating U.S. restaurants once again.
McDonald’s even expanded that comeback with a half-gallon jug of its McRib barbecue sauce. At the time, McDonald’s Chief Marketing and Customer Experience Officer Tariq Hassan explained just how important the sandwich had become to the company’s fan base.
“The McRib is more than a sandwich. It’s a part of culture, it’s a legend, it’s an event,” Hassan said.
The McRib returned again in 2025, although that rollout was more regional. McDonald’s listed markets including Miami, Dallas, St. Louis, Atlanta, Chicago, Seattle and Los Angeles among the cities getting the sandwich for a limited time.
McDonald’s senior marketing director Guillaume Huin also described the McRib in 2025 as the company’s “most-mentioned limited-time product online,” showing how much conversation the sandwich can still generate decades after its debut.
Its return in 2026 continues that cycle.
Part of what separates the McRib from other seasonal fast food releases is that customers rarely know exactly how long it will stay away. McDonald’s has experimented with nationwide launches, regional releases, and farewell promotions, allowing anticipation to build between appearances.
The strategy has been going on for years.
In 2020, McDonald’s brought the McRib back nationwide for the first time since 2012. The company described the sandwich at the time as one of its most anticipated limited-time menu offerings.
A year later, the chain celebrated the McRib’s 40th anniversary with another nationwide return. McDonald’s said the sandwich had grown from a regional favorite into an international phenomenon, with versions appearing in countries including Germany, New Zealand and France.
The internet has only made the hunt more intense. Dedicated fans have used crowdsourced tools such as the McRib Locator to report sightings when the sandwich pops up in different markets. The unofficial tracking site remains active today.
That means the November 2026 run could once again send customers checking apps, calling restaurants and comparing sightings before the sandwich disappears.
Unlike permanent McDonald’s staples such as the Big Mac, Quarter Pounder and Chicken McNuggets, scarcity is practically built into the McRib’s identity. McDonald’s itself has explained that it rotates limited-time offerings throughout the year and that the timing of the McRib can change from one year to another.
For 2026, the clock is already set.
The McRib is scheduled to hit menus beginning November 2 and remain available through November 29, giving fans exactly four weeks to make their McRib run.
After that, its next comeback could once again be anybody’s guess.
