Megan Thee Stallion is not rushing to act like everything is fine after her breakup with Klay Thompson.
Months after ending her relationship with the NBA star, Megan opened up about the emotional toll of their split and admitted that she is still trying to process how suddenly the romance fell apart. In a new Marie Claire cover story, published September 29, the Houston rapper made it clear that another serious relationship is nowhere near the top of her priorities.
“I’m not pretending I’m 100 percent okay,” Megan said. “I ain’t never been through nothing like that in my whole life. I’ve never, ever, ever been in a relationship like that, ever. So I’m definitely not worried about another one for a long time.”
Megan, whose full name is Megan Pete, described the ending even more plainly when discussing how quickly everything changed.
“It was so abrupt. I’m in shock still.”
The comments offer a much different picture of the relationship than the one fans saw when Megan and Thompson first went public in 2025. Now, Megan says she can recognize how much anxiety she experienced while they were together.
“When something is meant for you, it’s gonna be easy,” she told Marie Claire. “It’s gonna be right. It’s not gonna feel like a panic all the time.”
“I feel like that’s what I was in, constantly on edge,” she continued. “My nervous system needed to calm down. I feel like I was in a panic 24/7. I’m still not eating all the way right. I’m feeling all the feelings. I’m not trying to take no shortcuts.”
Megan and Thompson’s relationship became public in July 2025 after fans noticed the four-time NBA champion in the background of one of her Instagram posts. Days later, they made their official red carpet debut at Megan’s inaugural Pete & Thomas Foundation Gala in New York City on July 16.
At the time, Megan sounded smitten while keeping the exact circumstances of their introduction private.
“Oh, we met, and it was such a meet-cute it was like a [expletive] movie,” Megan told PEOPLE. “I won’t tell you how and I won’t tell you when, but it was a movie that he’s the nicest person I’ve ever met in my life.”
The couple continued sharing pieces of their relationship online. In August 2025, Megan posted a video of herself cooking catfish, spaghetti with red sauce, and Hawaiian rolls for Thompson. While eating, he praised her food.
“So good. Flawless,” Thompson said.
“This is the best meal I have ever tasted. It is my favorite meal,” he added.
By October, their relationship appeared to be getting even more serious. Megan posted photos featuring a key in front of a home along with romantic images of herself and Thompson. The post sparked speculation that the pair could be moving in together, although neither publicly confirmed that they had done so.
The relationship also became intertwined with family life. According to Billboard, Thompson named his boat “SS Stallion,” and Megan spent Thanksgiving with his family. Billboard also reported that Megan joked in February 2026 that she was “manifesting my engagement” while appearing in a video with engaged Olympic athletes Brittany Bowe and Hilary Knight.
Two months later, the public love story came to an abrupt end.
On April 25, Megan announced the breakup after posting an Instagram Story accusing Thompson of cheating and questioning monogamy. Megan wrote, “Cheating, had me around your whole family playing house… got ‘cold feet,’”
She continued, “Holding you down through all your HORRIBLE mood swings and treatment towards me during your basketball season, now you don’t know if you can be ‘monogamous’????”
Megan later confirmed that she had ended the relationship in a formal statement.
“I’ve made the decision to end my relationship with Klay,” Megan said. “Trust, fidelity, and respect are non-negotiable for me in a relationship, and when those values are compromised, there’s no real path forward. I’m taking this time to prioritize myself and move ahead with peace and clarity.”
Five months later, Megan’s latest comments suggest she is still working through what happened instead of trying to jump into another romance.
Megan said the experience has also changed how she approaches her own intuition. Looking back, she acknowledged that giving someone the benefit of the doubt can sometimes mean ignoring what she already feels.
“Sometimes I be knowing in my gut and in my heart, then you give so much benefit of the doubt,” she said. “No, the gut is always right. Listen.”
For now, Megan is leaving little ambiguity about where dating falls on her list of priorities.
“I’m not thinking about anything romantic,” she told Marie Claire. “I’m definitely not thinking about no damn relationship.”
