Netflix has renewed Beauty in Black for a fourth season, walking back its own announcement that the Tyler Perry drama would end with Season 3. The renewal landed Thursday, before Season 3 has aired a single episode, and it undoes a decision the streamer made public in December 2025 when it framed the third season as the final chapter of the series.
Perry addressed the news in a statement to Netflix’s Tudum. He said the Bellarie family’s story is far from finished, that there was much more he wanted to explore, and that he is grateful he gets to keep telling it. He thanked the audience that has been on the ride since day one for watching and sharing the show, and said more episodes are on the way.Reversals like this are rare at Netflix. The streamer is known for the opposite move, cutting series short and leaving audiences with unresolved endings, and it almost never restores a show it has already scheduled to conclude. Beauty in Black got that treatment because the numbers made the original decision look like a mistake. Season 1 spent seven weeks in the Global Top 10 and hit number one in 28 countries. Season 2 spent six weeks in the Global Top 10 and hit number one in 17 countries. Netflix’s own engagement reporting has the series past one billion viewing hours across those two seasons, roughly 1.048 billion, which works out to more than 104 million views.
That is the context the announcement itself does not spell out. A show does not get pulled back from a planned ending on sentiment. It gets pulled back because the completion rate and the international pickup say the audience is not done, and because Perry delivers volume at a cost structure that makes a fourth order an easy yes.
Beauty in Black premiered in October 2024 and has already produced 32 episodes. Season 2 rolled out in two parts, the first in September 2025 and the second in March 2026. Star Taylor Polidore Williams told TVLine that the entire third season is already shot, and that it was filmed in six days. Six days is fast even by the standards of a producer whose Atlanta studio operation was built specifically to move at that speed. Most prestige dramas spend longer than that on a single episode.
Netflix has not announced a Season 3 premiere date, which is the one piece of information viewers actually want and the one thing still missing. Kimmie finally has a seat at the Bellarie table, and when a deadly family feud breaks out she is forced into an uneasy alliance with Mallory. The two of them move through a world of blackmail, revenge, and buried secrets while the family goes to war against one of its own, with the whole empire at risk of collapsing.
For anyone catching up, Beauty in Black follows two women whose lives could not look more different from the outside. Kimmie, played by Taylor Polidore Williams, is scraping by after her mother put her out. Mallory, played by Crystle Stewart, runs a successful business. Their paths cross and stay crossed, and the Bellaries, the family behind a haircare empire that also runs an underground trafficking operation, sit at the center of everything. Season 2 pushed that family toward a reckoning as Kimmie turned from someone the Bellaries used into the person coming for them.
The ensemble includes Amber Reign Smith, Xavier Smalls, Ricco Ross, Julian Horton, Steven G. Norfleet, Richard Lawson, Terrell Carter, Bryan Tanaka, Charles Malik Whitfield, and Debbi Morgan. Perry created the series and serves as writer, director, and executive producer, which is the same setup he has used across nearly everything he has made.
What the Season 4 order confirms is something the industry has been slow to say plainly. Perry’s model, fast production, deep bench of Black talent, stories built for an audience that legacy Hollywood has historically treated as a niche, produces global numbers. Number one in 28 countries is not a domestic phenomenon. A billion viewing hours is not a cult following. Netflix scheduled the ending, watched the data, and changed its mind.
Season 4 details, including cast and any information about when it goes into production, will come later. There is also no word on whether the fourth season will now be positioned as the final one or whether the series is simply open ended going forward. Given that Season 3 is already in the can and Perry works at the pace he works at, the gap between the two seasons may end up shorter than the gap fans just sat through between the halves of Season 2.
