Chris Brown’s $90M Dog Attack Trial Crashes Before It Starts And It Wasn’t Because Of The Evidence

What was supposed to be a major courtroom showdown involving Chris Brown ended almost as soon as it began. The singer appeared in Los Angeles court this week as jury proceedings got underway in the $90 million lawsuit filed by former housekeeper Maria Avila. But instead of opening statements and witness testimony dominating headlines, the trial was derailed by an issue that had nothing to do with the alleged dog attack at the center of the case.

According to reports, the judge declared a mistrial after learning that a juror had allegedly searched for information about the case before proceedings began and shared those findings with other jurors. The decision immediately halted the trial and sent everyone home before the dispute could be presented to the jury.

As he left court, Brown appeared unbothered by the development. When asked about the mistrial, he simply responded, “It happens.” He also reacted to Avila’s demand for $90 million in damages, saying, “That’s crazy.”

The lawsuit stems from a 2020 incident at Brown’s Los Angeles home. Avila claims she suffered severe physical and emotional injuries after being attacked by a large dog while working on the property. She alleges the attack caused significant damage to her face, neck, and arms and has sought millions in damages as a result.

Brown has consistently denied wrongdoing. His legal team has argued that he should not be held responsible for the injuries and has challenged multiple aspects of Avila’s claims throughout the lengthy court battle.

The mistrial adds another unexpected chapter to a case that has already generated years of legal maneuvering. In recent months, both sides fought over what evidence jurors would be allowed to see. Avila pushed to introduce graphic photos she says document her injuries, while Brown successfully convinced a judge to block references to his 2009 assault case involving Rihanna from being presented at trial.

Court filings also revealed disputes over alleged payments made to Avila following the incident. Brown’s longtime security supervisor testified that he personally provided financial assistance to Avila and her family after the attack, a claim that became another point of contention before trial.

Now, instead of moving toward a verdict, both sides are preparing for a restart. The mistrial serves as a reminder that in high-profile celebrity cases, legal battles can be shaped by more than evidence and testimony. Sometimes the biggest twist comes from the jury box itself.
