Chris Tucker had a Las Vegas crowd laughing, but his latest confession tapped into a much bigger celebrity conversation. According to TMZ, Tucker celibacy became part of his recent set at The Wynn when the “Rush Hour” star told the audience, “Well, I’m celibate. I’ve been celibate for 3 years, but I’m really trying to get married. I give it to the love this time.”
Naturally, the room was not quiet. Tucker knew the crowd was side-eyeing him and added, “I’m serious. No one believes me.” Then he brought his family into it, joking that even his niece was skeptical: “She believes in aliens, but she don’t believe I did that.”
The comedian kept going, explaining how some women respond when he says sex is off the table.
“She said, ‘How much? How much … how much is it?’ I’m not selling it. I’m celibate! What is wrong with you people?” he joked. Tucker also said he has gotten lonely enough to flirt with Siri and Alexa, which tells you the man knows how to turn discipline into a full stand-up bit.
Still, Tucker is not the only celebrity putting celibacy on the table. Mýa has been especially open about her own journey. During a July 2024 appearance on “Way Up with Angela Yee,” the Grammy-winning singer said she was celibate for seven years and explained that the decision gave her “mental clarity.” She said, “Just doing without, it shifted my mindset,” adding, “It was no longer a focus.”
Mýa also framed celibacy as self-accountability, not punishment.
“That self-accountability started with me by shutting that part of my life off,” she said. For her, the choice helped quiet the pressure to rush into a relationship, marriage, or motherhood just because society expects women to follow that timeline.
Lenny Kravitz has spoken about abstinence through a spiritual lens. In a 2024 interview with The Guardian, he said he had not been in a serious relationship for nine years and confirmed he still wanted to remain celibate until the right relationship, saying, “Yes. It’s a spiritual thing.”
Tiffany Haddish has also connected celibacy to standards and self-worth. She told “On Purpose with Jay Shetty” that she started practicing celibacy in October 2023, saying, “I just don’t wanna lay down with nobody, just anybody.” She added, “I am the prize and these dudes gotta qualify.”
Ciara and Russell Wilson made abstinence part of their public love story before marriage. Ciara said the two were waiting “until the deal is sealed,” while explaining that they were building their friendship before becoming husband and wife.
So yes, Tucker’s delivery was pure comedy. However, the bigger story is clear: more celebrities are talking about celibacy as a boundary, a reset, or a faith-based decision instead of treating it like something to hide. And in Tucker’s case, the message came wrapped in jokes, loneliness, marriage hopes, and one very confused imaginary woman trying to negotiate a price.
