Hot 97 did not hesitate after cutting ties with Ebro in the Morning, and the station made that message loud and clear.
Just days after canceling the longtime show, the New York radio giant publicly introduced a new set of on air personalities, signaling that the page was turned quickly and without hesitation.
On Thursday, Hot 97 posted a promotional graphic unveiling Ronndell Smith, Lana Harris, and Million as the “NEW HOT 97 Hosts,” paired with a bold “Coming Soon” caption.
No rollout, no grace period, and no acknowledgement of the show that previously held down the time slot for years.
The timing raised eyebrows immediately. Ebro in the Morning, hosted by Ebro Darden, Laura Stylez, and Peter Rosenberg, had been a staple of the station and a major voice in hip hop radio culture.
Yet almost as soon as the show was canceled, Hot 97 appeared ready to move forward with all new host.
While the station has not officially confirmed where Ronndell, Lana, and Million will land on the schedule, the optics tell a different story. With the morning slot suddenly empty and new hosts already being promoted, many listeners believe the replacements were lined up well before the announcement went public.
Hot 97 has stayed silent on the reasoning behind the decision, but Ebro has not. He previously suggested that his outspoken political commentary and criticism of powerful institutions may have played a role in the show’s exit, a claim the station has not addressed or denied.
What is clear is how fast the station moved on.
For fans, they knew one of the most influential morning shows in hip hop radio was gone, and its potential replacements were already waiting in the wings.
Whether listeners embrace the change or continue to question the move, Hot 97 has made it clear that the next era is already in motion.
