Sophie Brussaux, the 36-year-old mother of Drake’s son Adonis, has officially entered a new chapter after marrying 26-year-old Turkish Muay Thai athlete Efe Çalışkan in Canada.
Brussaux and Çalışkan tied the knot on June 21 in North York, Toronto. The date also fell on Father’s Day, adding another layer of internet chatter because Brussaux is best known publicly as the mother of Drake’s only son. A public wedding registry listed the couple’s names and wedding date.
Çalışkan is a combat sports athlete based in Ontario. His Tapology profile lists him as fighting out of Thornhill, Ontario, with Muay Thai as his foundation style. Türkiye Today reports that he is Turkish and has competed in Muay Thai, kickboxing, and MMA.
Brussaux, a French artist and former model, became tied to one of hip-hop’s most infamous storylines after her past romance with Drake went public. She and Drake were briefly linked in January 2017. She later claimed she was pregnant, and Adonis was born in October 2017. A paternity test reportedly confirmed Drake was the father in March 2018.
However, the world did not fully learn about Adonis until Drake’s heated rap feud with Pusha T. In May 2018, Pusha T released “The Story of Adidon,” accusing Drake of hiding his son. Drake later addressed fatherhood on his album “Scorpion.” On “Emotionless,” he rapped, “I wasn’t hiding my kid from the world / I was hiding the world from my kid.”
Drake also opened up about the feud on LeBron James and Maverick Carter’s “The Shop,” saying he knew Pusha T would mention his child but felt the diss went too far. He admitted he recorded a response but decided not to release it, later calling Pusha’s move “a hell of a chess move.”
In the years since, Drake and Brussaux appear to have built a healthier co-parenting relationship. He rapped on “Certified Lover Boy,” “Co-parent of the year, we figured out a rapport.”
The wedding also puts Drake’s own complicated views on marriage back in focus. During a 2023 appearance on Bobbi Althoff’s podcast, the superstar said marriage felt like “ancient times” but admitted he may eventually settle down. He added that his work is his priority and said he did not feel he could give someone the consistency they would need. He has also famously worn a custom “Previous Engagements” necklace made with 42 engagement-ring diamonds, representing the times he thought about proposing but did not.
For now, Brussaux appears to be the one who made it down the aisle.
