Drake is turning months of mystery into a much bigger visual statement with “Fear of Missing Out,” a film set to premiere Tuesday night. The “FOMO” film is scheduled to arrive September 15 at 9 p.m. ET on YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Music, giving fans their clearest look yet at a project the Toronto artist has been quietly teasing since August.
Ahead of the release, Drake offered more insight into what he wants viewers to take away from the film. He described the project as something created outside of the traditional studio system and centered on squeezing as much meaning as possible out of one summer.
“This is self-funded surrealism,” he wrote alongside a grainy, lo-fi picture of himself. “A story about making the absolute most of it all in one summer. Credit to nobody but the members. Here’s some life advice before you watch. Nobody is coming to save you. You must use each day to decipher who you love and trust and march forward with them.”

That message adds more context to a rollout that initially gave fans few answers. Drake began hinting at “Fear of Missing Out” in August when he shared family photos with the caption “FOMO 2026.” He later posted an image resembling the back of a CD case carrying the “Fear of Missing Out” title, prompting speculation about whether another album, tour, or visual project was coming.
The mystery became clearer on September 12. Drake released a teaser identifying “FOMO” as a “not so short film.” Drake also described it as “directed and scored by the family,” keeping much of the creative credit close to the people surrounding him.
The teaser for the film puts that reflective theme front and center. The clip shows Drake riding across the water in a neon green speedboat while a woman narrates a choice between living cautiously and embracing uncertainty.
“What if I told you there were two versions of your life?” she says in the teaser. “In one, you avoid risk and withhold love. You feel like you’ve gone missing from yourself. You look for something you can’t find. In the other version of your life, you find it.”
The imagery and narration suggest “Fear of Missing Out” is built around more than its title. Drake is presenting the film as a meditation on decisions, relationships, ambition, and what can happen when people stop waiting for the perfect moment. His latest comments make that intention even clearer.
“I hope this serves as motivation to make that call, take that trip, drop that song, open that shop, see your parents, leave that relationship or stay in it forever, spend the bread, get some more, etc.,” he continued. “They keep saying our genre is dying. Videos don’t matter. Nobody is watching. Nobody is listening. I still care. As much as I did on the set of ‘Best I Ever Had.’ So be kind and rewind.”
That reference to “Best I Ever Had” connects the new project to an earlier period in Drake’s career when music videos remained a major part of how songs became cultural moments. With the film, he appears to be making the case that ambitious visual storytelling still has value even as music consumption increasingly revolves around streaming platforms and short-form content.
The timing also follows one of Drake’s biggest release moments in years. Drake released “Iceman,” “Habibti,” and “Maid of Honour” simultaneously on May 15. The three projects debuted at Nos. 1, 2, and 3 on the Billboard 200, making him the first artist in the chart’s 70-year history to occupy all three top positions at the same time. Billboard reported that “Iceman” opened with 463,000 equivalent album units in the United States.
Despite that flood of new material, one major question surrounding the Drake FOMO film remains unanswered. It has not been confirmed whether “Fear of Missing Out” will introduce additional new Drake music. His description of the project as being scored by his circle leaves room for music to play a major role, but no soundtrack or additional songs have been officially detailed.
For now, Drake seems more focused on the film’s message than explaining every surprise before viewers see it.
