King Yella is not buying the idea that Chicago’s drill era can suddenly be explained away as entertainment, especially after years of funerals and real families being left to grieve. The Chicago rapper unloaded on Lil Durk during a new Cam Capone News interview after Durk’s legal team pushed to let experts explain how rap can include hyperbole, commercial image-making, and what reporting on the filing described as manufactured “fake beefs.” The argument is part of Durk’s federal murder for hire case, where prosecutors are attempting to use some of his lyrics and music as evidence. Durk’s lawyers maintain those lyrics should not automatically be treated as real-life confessions.

Still, King Yella took the “fake beefs” language personally.“This is not even a f**king game,” Yella said. “You wanna go tell them tell these people that all of the whole Chicago beef and all this shit was fake? N***as really done died.”
Yella then pointed directly to the people in Durk’s own circle who have been killed.
“Your best friend Nuski got killed,” Yella said, apparently referring to McArthur Swindle, better known as OTF Nunu or Nuski. Swindle, Durk’s cousin and fellow rapper, was 21 when he was shot and killed in Chicago in May 2014 while sitting inside an SUV.
Yella continued, “Your cousin got killed. Your manager got killed. Your brother got killed, your man, all your best friend, your right-hand man got killed. It’s a video game though. We’re just playing.”
The losses around Durk are well documented. His longtime manager Uchenna “OTF Chino” Agina was shot and killed in Chicago in March 2015. King Von, Durk’s close friend, protégé, and OTF artist, was killed during a confrontation outside an Atlanta nightclub in November 2020. Durk’s older brother Dontay “DThang” Banks Jr. was fatally shot outside a Harvey, Illinois nightclub in June 2021.
King Yella also made it clear he was not only talking about deaths connected to Durk’s side of Chicago’s rap divide.
“Now what about my friends or the other side,” Yella asked. “Or the people that are saying you got Cash killed, you got him killed, you got them people killed. You got too much on you, gang.”
That portion of Yella’s rant requires an important distinction. His suggestion that people blame Durk for FBG Cash’s killing is an allegation, not an established fact. No court has found Durk responsible for Cash’s murder. FBG Cash, born Tristian Hamilton, was 31 when he was shot and killed in Chicago in June 2022.
Yella also had ties to the FBG circle, particularly FBG Duck. In previous interviews, he has spoken about knowing Duck and how deeply his death affected him. Duck, whose real name was Carlton Weekly, was killed in a daytime shooting in Chicago’s Gold Coast in August 2020. Six men were later convicted in federal court in connection with his murder.
The timing of Yella’s comments is especially explosive because Durk’s federal trial is now underway in Los Angeles. Prosecutors allege Durk financed and directed a 2022 plot to kill Quando Rondo as revenge for King Von’s death. Quando survived, but his cousin Saviay’a “Lul Pab” Robinson was killed. Durk has pleaded not guilty.
Durk’s defense has argued that prosecutors are trying to turn his music into biography. His attorneys want an expert to explain that rap often uses exaggeration, creative expression, and manufactured beefs for commercial purposes. Importantly, that is not the same as Durk personally declaring that every Chicago street conflict was fake. It is a defense argument about how jurors should interpret rap lyrics and artist personas.
In opening statements, Durk’s lawyer Marissa Goldberg also argued that co-defendant Kavon Grant was the person responsible for organizing the Los Angeles attack and told jurors Durk “had nothing to do with it.”
That distinction did little to calm King Yella.
“They’re gonna be a bunch of woulda, coulda, shoulda,” Yella said while warning about the possibility of years behind bars.
For Yella, the argument is bigger than rap lyrics or courtroom strategy. Whether every diss song, threat, or internet exchange was genuine is one question. The people who died around Chicago’s drill scene were very real, and Yella is making it clear he does not want years of bloodshed rewritten as nothing more than marketing.
