Latto is making it clear that her peace is much more important than the internet chatter.
Speaking with Paper Magazine, Latto addressed the ongoing chatter about her relationship with her reported boo, 21 Savage. However, she made it clear that speculation doesn’t move her.
“I have nothing to prove to anyone. I have no rumor to clear up,” she says. “I’ve been with my man for years now, and it ain’t going nowhere. To me, that’s clearly a result of me moving and operating how I do.”
While fans have spent years piecing together clues, Latto has chosen to move differently. She has acknowledged her partner in her own way, but she refuses to let her love life become content for public consumption. That decision, she explains, is about protecting both her peace and her longevity.
“When it comes to female rappers, female artists — we’re told that we have to put so much of our life out there, and then it becomes too much about our personal life and not enough of the music,” Latto explains. “That’s how stuff just ends up crashing and burning, because you got too many cooks in the kitchen.”
She also made it clear that her identity doesn’t revolve around a relationship.
“I’m my own person outside of my relationship as well. I don’t want to make that the forefront of my existence, my career. I got a man at home, I’m happy, and I’m well taken care of, and that’s about all anyone needs to know.”
Shortly after the interview went live, 21 Savage showed love to Latto on Instagram, reposting the Paper Magazine cover with the statement, “Big Mama Not The Little 1.
