Lil Nas X is attempting to pivot his legal strategy to avoid a potential prison sentence. The rapper, whose real name is Montero Hill, stood before a judge in Van Nuys on Thursday as his legal team requested a delay in his felony battery case.

The goal is to move the matter into a diversion program, which could eventually lead to the charges being wiped from his record.
His attorney, Christy O’Connor, informed the court that she is currently waiting on an “expert report” to justify the move. While she didn’t go into specifics regarding what kind of program Lil Nas X is seeking, these arrangements usually require a defendant to undergo supervised treatment or rehab in exchange for a dismissal of the case.
After the proceedings, Lil Nas X stepped outside to give a brief statement to the press. Although his counsel blocked any specific questions about the allegations, the artist made sure to acknowledge his followers.
“All I wanted to say is to my fans, I really love, and I miss you, and I appreciate your support so much, and I can’t wait to be back hugging you guys,” Lil Nas X said while blowing a kiss. “You guys, have a good day.”
The legal trouble began with a strange incident on August 21, 2025. Video footage from that morning allegedly showed the star walking in traffic near Studio City around 5:40 a.m. while mostly unclothed.
According to prosecutors, the performer was “strolling naked” on Ventura Boulevard when police showed up. Things turned physical during the arrest, with authorities claiming Lil Nas X assaulted the officers, causing injuries to three of them.
As it stands, the 26-year-old is charged with one count of resisting an executive officer and three counts of battery on a police officer with injury. Lil Nas X has pleaded not guilty, but he is staring down a maximum sentence of five years in state prison if he is convicted. The judge has scheduled the next hearing for April 6.
