Lakers guard Nick Young is pushing back on a harassment claim that circulated on social media over the weekend. The claim is an allegation, and Young has publicly disputed it.
According to reports at the time, a woman named Alexis posted photos on social media and said four men in a Jeep made obscene comments and gestures at her and her mother while stopped at a red light. She said she did not know who the men were. Social media users then identified two of them as Lakers players Nick Young and Jordan Clarkson. Neither player’s identification was confirmed by the woman’s original post.
Young responded on Twitter after a fan shared an older video in which Alexis interviewed him while both attended USC. Young wrote, “I really just hate the fact that people can just say anything about a public figure and we as athletes … etc just have to take it.” He added, “I told you when you know who you are and got God on your side nothing can stop you.”
Alexis is known for working with athletes on issues related to sexual harassment. The Lakers said they were looking into the claim. The video shows she was familiar with Young, but that alone does not settle what did or did not happen at the red light. We will keep an eye on how it develops.
