Angel Carrasco, 31, has been charged with murder after police say he pushed his former girlfriend, 23 year old Nathaly Ramirez, and her 8 month old daughter off a 15th floor balcony in the Bronx early Tuesday morning.

Officers responded to a 911 call around 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 6, outside 2550 Olinville Avenue in the Allerton section of the Bronx. They found Ramirez and her baby girl on the ground with injuries consistent with a fall from a height. Investigators later determined both of them had been pushed from a balcony on the 15th floor. Neighbors reported hearing Carrasco and Ramirez arguing loudly inside her apartment shortly before the fall.
Ramirez died from her injuries. Her daughter survived, and reports say Ramirez held onto the baby and shielded her during the fall. The infant was hospitalized in critical condition.
Angel Carrasco was gone by the time police arrived, and the NYPD launched a manhunt. Police released his photo and a wanted poster warning the public that he should be considered armed and dangerous.
The search ended Wednesday night. Police say a close friend of Carrasco walked into the 49th Precinct and told detectives where he was hiding. Members of the Regional Fugitive Task Force took him into custody around 10:20 p.m. on Wednesday, October 7.
Angel Carrasco now faces charges of murder, attempted murder, manslaughter, attempted manslaughter and assault. The attempted murder and attempted manslaughter charges are tied to the baby, who survived.
On Thursday afternoon, detectives walked Carrasco out of the 49th Precinct stationhouse in front of a large crowd that had gathered outside. People shouted at him as he was led to a police vehicle. Carrasco said nothing, and he appeared to smile for the cameras as the crowd jeered.
This was not the first time police had been called into this relationship. In January, Angel Carrasco was charged with misdemeanor assault for allegedly slapping Ramirez during a dispute involving another ex girlfriend of his. Just days later, he was charged with burglary after police say he broke into Ramirez’s apartment while looking for her. Sources told FOX 5 New York there was a history of domestic violence at the apartment.
Those January cases were still on the books when Ramirez was killed nine months later, and they raise hard questions about what protections she had, if any, after reporting him the first time. It has not been made public whether a protective order was in place.
Ramirez was 23 years old and the mother of an infant daughter who is now fighting to recover without her.
Angel Carrasco is being held in custody while the investigation continues. Charges are accusations, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
