Beyoncé released a Morning Dew remix pack early Wednesday morning with no rollout, no teaser and no announced release date, and Jay-Z is on two of the four tracks. Parkwood Entertainment posted the link just after 7 a.m. with three words attached, out now, and the Hive did the rest.

The four track EP gives fans three fresh versions of the song plus the original. The headliner is the remix featuring her husband, credited as JAŸ-Z with an umlaut over the Y. There is also an acoustic version, which Jay appears on as well, and a new DONK MIX that leans further into the bounce the title has been promising since July.Jay’s verse is short and it is exactly the register you want from him on his wife’s record. He raps about a vintage watch he has no interest in replacing and rolling through Malibu in an old school, which is Jay at his most comfortable, flexing restraint instead of receipts. The bed he is doing it over is the part worth sitting with. That is The Isley Brothers’ “Between the Sheets,” the 1983 quiet storm record that has been sampled so many times it functions as a shared language in Black music, most famously by The Notorious B.I.G. on “Big Poppa” in 1994. Going back to the Isleys directly rather than to anybody who borrowed from them is a specific choice, and on a song this grown it does the work before Jay says a word.
The surprise is the strategy. Beyoncé does not do accidental. She debuted the original Morning Dew remix source track on the Fourth of July, which started a clean 60 day countdown running straight into September 4, a date that is both her birthday and the anniversary of B’Day, her second album. That reissue, the 20th anniversary edition of B’Day, is where “Morning Dew (Donk)” lives as the lead single. Dropping remixes with zero notice in the middle of that window keeps the conversation hot for another news cycle without spending a single dollar on a rollout.
What makes this one different from a typical remix pack is who actually put the song in the world. “Donk” was recorded around 2013, during the sessions for her self titled album. A snippet leaked online in 2021. A fuller version leaked in 2023 and became a viral sound on TikTok, where people who were children when B’Day came out turned it into a whole trend. Beyoncé did not chase it down or pretend it did not exist. She finished it, cleaned it up and released it officially, and now the Morning Dew remix pack extends a song that fans essentially willed into a single.
The numbers say the bet paid off. “Morning Dew (Donk)” debuted at No. 7 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart dated July 18, putting Beyoncé back in that top 10 for the first time in three years. It also opened at No. 3 on Hot R&B Songs and No. 26 on the Hot 100, which made it her 61st top 40 entry. For a track that started as a leaked demo, that is a remarkable second life.
The credits explain a lot of the sound. The song was written by Beyoncé, Pharrell Williams, The-Dream and Darius Dixon, and produced by Beyoncé and Pharrell. The-Dream and Pharrell in the same room is the exact combination that built her early solo run, and the finished record is a slow, innuendo heavy R&B record rather than anything experimental. It is also her first new song since Cowboy Carter in 2024, which means the Morning Dew remix pack is the closest thing we have to a signal about where she is headed next.
The Jay feature also lands weeks after the two of them shared a stage. He has been running celebrations for two anniversaries of his own this year, with Reasonable Doubt turning 30 and The Blueprint turning 25, and Beyoncé came out at the top of one of those shows to sing “Can’t Knock the Hustle” with him. Seeing them onstage together and then getting a studio record within the same summer is the kind of timing that does not happen by accident in that household.
For anyone who came to Beyoncé later, B’Day is the album that proved she could carry a solo career without Destiny’s Child behind her. It arrived in September 2006, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and produced “Irreplaceable,” which finished 2007 as the top song on the year end Hot 100. It also gave us “Deja Vu” and “Beautiful Liar” with Shakira. Twenty years later she is treating that record like the foundation it was rather than a nostalgia play, using unreleased material from a completely different era to give it a new front door.
September 4 is the date to circle. Until then, the Morning Dew remix pack is streaming everywhere, and the acoustic version is the one the Hive is quietly saying is the best of the four.
