At a recent promotional event, 50 Cent kept it blunt while talking about why he avoids public debates on religion and politics, and he used two of the biggest names in music as real-world examples.

“There’s two things they tell you to stay away from,” he said. “Religion and politics. No matter what you think, somebody passionately disagrees with you.” Then he went straight to the point. “That’s how Kanye West messed up. Then Nicki said some stuff.”
50’s comments land in a moment where Ye’s antisemitic remarks over the last few years led to lost partnerships and widespread backlash. Nicki Minaj has also faced criticism after publicly engaging with Charlie Kirk’s organization and the Trump administration, which split her fan base. For 50, the lesson is simple. Controversy sticks, and brands do not always recover.
The conversation came as he promoted his latest film project, “Moses the Black,” which he produced. The movie reimagines the story of a fourth-century Ethiopian saint, once a feared gang leader who later became a monk, as a modern Chicago redemption story. It blends crime drama with Orthodox Christian themes and stars Omar Epps, Wiz Khalifa, and Quavo. The film is set for release on January 30, 2026, with plans to open in 1,800 theaters.
50 Cent stressed that the key is framing. He wants audiences to see the project as entertainment first, not a sermon.
“Moses the Black is about a transformation,” he said, adding that keeping the focus on the story helps avoid alienating viewers.
