It looks like Ezekiel Elliott may be suiting up Sunday to play against the Giants after all.
The Dallas Cowboys and star running back Ezekiel Elliott are reportedly close to reaching terms on a contract extension that would establish him as the highest-paid football player at his position annually, according to reports.
The agreement is reportedly for a six-year extension worth $90 million, according to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio.
ESPN reports there’s “urgency” to get a deal done within 24 hours, as of about noon Tuesday, so that the two-time Pro Bowl running back could join practice Wednesday to prepare for Week 1.
ESPN also reports that Elliott has officially touched down from Cabo, Mexico, to Texas, in anticipation of a potential deal. Elliott has been holding out all summer long and training in Cabo as he awaits a new contract.
Cowboys Owner, Jerry Jones, seemed positive Tuesday during his radio show on KRLD-FM, saying he would like to see Elliott play against the Giants on Sunday, although he admitted that it might be challenging for that to happen.
The Cowboys host the New York Giants on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. EST.
