Donald Trump wanted his favorite daughter Ivanka to be his running mate in the 2016 election, according to a new book.
Trump’s former campaign deputy Rick Gates made the claims in his new book coming out next month. He quoted Trump saying, “Ivanka should be vice-president.”
Bloomberg News reports that Trump said, “I think it should be Ivanka. What about Ivanka as my VP?”
Gates said Trump was dead serious about making his daughter, who had no political experience, his vice president.
“All heads turned toward her, and she just looked surprised,” Gates wrote. “We all knew Trump well enough to keep our mouths shut and not laugh. He went on: ‘She’s bright, she’s smart, she’s beautiful, and the people would love her!”’
Ivanka reportedly told her dad it wasn’t a good idea, which prompted him to pick Mike Pence.
Gates said Pence was chosen after delivering a “vicious and extended monologue” about Hillary Clinton.
Gates will publish his new book, Wicked Game: An Insider’s Story on How Trump Won, Mueller Failed and America Lost on October 13.
