A man on the run for murder was caught after he was shot and injured by a three-year-old.
Indiana authorities say, Trayshaun Smith, 23, was arrested on Thursday after he went to a hospital for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, Lt. Justin Hartman of the Lafayette Police Department confirmed.
Authorities say the incident happened after a three-year-old got access to a firearm and fired one round, ABC News reported.
“It was determined that a three-year-old child at that location accessed a gun and fired one round striking two people,” according to Hartman.
A second person was also shot and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The police department said officers initially found both shooting victims at the Franciscan Health Lafayette East Hospital, but the shooting occurred at an apartment complex in Lafayette, Indiana.
Police did not provide details about the relationship between the three-year-old and the victims.
Smith was arrested on an active murder warrant from Cook County, Illinois. He resides in Lafayette, according to authorities.
