The 2020 Election is really going to the dogs now! Especially since one Kentucky town elected a French bulldog to be its next mayor.
According to The New York Post, Rabbit Hash, an unincorporated community along the Ohio River, announced on Tuesday via the town’s historical society Facebook page that it had elected a French bulldog named Wilbur Beast as the new mayor.
“Mayoral election in Rabbit Hash has been called! Wilbur Beast is the new mayor with an amazing 13,143 votes (highest winning total ever) toward an election total of 22,985!!! (Also the highest total ever for a Rabbit Hash election),” read the post.
The new mayor-elect beat his rivals — a beagle named Jack Rabbit and a golden retriever named Poppy — by more than 10,000 votes.
Rabbit Hash has carried on their tradition of choosing dogs for mayor since the late 1990s. The “election” is a fundraiser for the historical society, which charges $1 per vote.
The second- and third-place candidates were awarded Rabbit Hash Ambassador positions, so they can still make a difference in Ohio politics, the society said.
