After over thirty years in the entertainment industry, Raven-Symoné is correcting how people pronounce her name.
The “Cheetah Girls” star is finally fed up. On Thursday, the 37-year-old sat in her car, draped in Gucci and gold, with her phone perched up when she delivered the news to her fans. According to Raven, the “Symoné” in her name is not pronounced “Sim-moan,” as fans have always stated. Instead, it is actually “See-mon-ye.”
Why it took her three decades to correct this common enunciation is unknown. However, maybe she didn’t want to be confrontational in an industry that is not always kind to young celebrities. Nevertheless, Raven is ready to embrace her given name and wants others to do the same.
Most of us met Raven-Symoné when she appeared on “The Cosby Show,” where she made her television debut as Olivia Kendall at age three. Since then, she has appeared in “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” “My Wife & Kids,” and most popularly, her hit Disney series, “That’s So Raven.” These days, she is the star of the series grown-up spinoff, “Raven’s Home.”
Hopefully, Raven understands this may take her fans some getting used to, though everyone should make an effort to use her correct name.
