The lawsuit against Smokey Robinson has reached a critical turning point now that a judge has ordered the accusers to surrender their cell phones.
This ruling came after Robinson’s legal team expressed serious concerns that the plaintiffs were withholding or deleting important information. Court documents obtained by TMZ show that the defense argued the accusers had avoided complying with multiple requests for their phone records.
According to Robinson’s attorneys, the plaintiffs identified as several Jane Does were served with formal discovery demands but repeatedly failed to cooperate. On Wednesday, Robinson asked the court to step in. By Friday, December 5, the judge agreed and issued a direct order requiring the accusers to turn over their devices within ten days. The ruling grants the defense access to messages, call logs, and other phone data that could influence the case or reveal how the allegations were coordinated.
Robinson has denied all accusations from the beginning, and his legal team welcomed the judge’s decision. Attorney Christopher Frost released a statement responding to the ruling.
“We are pleased with the Court’s ruling,” Frost told TMZ. “Plaintiffs’ motives have been clear all along. File a vile and salacious complaint and then bring these plaintiffs out a handful at a time so it looks like there are new and independent allegations, when the truth is that these people all worked together to contrive this lawsuit.”
Frost also criticized the plaintiffs for staying anonymous while resisting discovery.
“They are now keeping the public in the dark about the truth by hiding behind a confidentiality order and refusing to produce any documents at all,” he said. “We know the types of communications these plaintiffs had with our clients prior to deciding to sue them, so we are pleased to finally be able to access information that will help the court, a jury, and the public know the truth.”
The lawsuit was originally filed in May by four Jane Does who claimed they worked as housekeepers for Robinson and his wife, Frances Gladney Robinson. Additional accusers later sought to join the case, including a male plaintiff identified as John Doe who alleged unwanted contact, sexual remarks, and indecent exposure.
Another Jane Doe described repeated unwanted physical contact. Robinson’s team has dismissed every accusation and argued that the lawsuit is a coordinated attempt to force a financial settlement.
