Watch out streaming world, Spike Lee just signed a multi-year deal with Netflix. Expect to see more diverse films on the streaming giant.
Lee’s most recent film, Da 5 Bloods, set him up to be working with Netflix in the long run. The Academy Award winner expressed his excitement in a statement.
“There is no better way for me and my company 40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks to begin the new year than renew our partnership with Ted, Scott and Tendo — da fearless leaders of Netflix.”
Lee and the streaming network have worked on several projects. The limited series, She’s Gotta Have It gained popularity on Netflix. He also produced See You Yesterday and put on a one-man show, Rodney King.
He continues in his statement, “Besides My Joints, We Together Will Focus on the New Diverse Storytellers, YOUTH MUST BE SERVED. And Dat’s Da Truth, Ruth. YA-DIG? SHO-NUFF.”
In the contract, Netflix will be financing and supporting Lee’s mission for better representation in the entertainment industry.
