Donald Trump announced he will be awarding Tiger Woods with the Presidential Medal of Freedom after Woods won his fifth Masters title this past weekend.
It’s been 14 years since Woods, 43, won his last Masters title. The award-winning golf player previously endured several personal problems, as well as physical issues like back pain and spinal fusion surgery. While many fans may not have thought they’d see this day again, Woods has reclaimed his glory as one of the top golfers of all-time.
His win gained attention from not only his fan base but also reality TV star #DonaldTrump, who now wants to grant Woods with the Presidential Medal of Freedom. “Spoke to Tiger Woods to congratulate him on the great victory he had in yesterday’s The Masters, & to inform him that because of his incredible Success & Comeback in Sports (Golf) and, more importantly, LIFE, I will be presenting him with the PRESIDENTIAL MEDAL OF FREEDOM!” Trump tweeted Monday afternoon.
The Medal of Freedom recognizes individuals who have made “an especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of the United States, world peace, cultural or other significant public or private endeavors,” according to the executive order designating the award.
So far Trump has given the Presidential award to a few athletes including Alan Page, Roger Staubach, and Babe Ruth.
