The Trump campaign’s “Voter Fraud Hotline” has been inundated with calls since Trump created it earlier this week. The problem is staffers aren’t getting calls about voter fraud; instead, they are handling hundreds of calls a day from pranksters who are poking fun at Trump’s defeat.
According to ABC News, many callers are pranksters who bomb the line with laughter or mock the former reality tv star’s presidential firing.
The campaign’s hotline is part of Trump’s last-ditch efforts to create doubt over the election results and drag his fight to court. His attorney Rudy Giuliani promoted the hotline on social media this week, encouraging the public to report any evidence of voter fraud or voter suppression to support Trump’s case.
One anonymous staffer told ABC: “The hotline has turned into a nightmare for some, as staffers, some of whom have contracts that expire in the coming days, have been bombarded with prank calls from people laughing or mocking them over Biden’s win before hanging up.”
Prank calling the hotline has already become a new trend on social media, and callers uploading video clips of their calls to Tik Tok and Twitter. “Gravity Falls” creator Alex Hirsch has already called several times and posted his calls to his Twitter account.
