Yaya Mayweather is putting an end to the “deadbeat” rumors before they spin further out of control.
Following a viral social media outburst, the daughter of Floyd Mayweather Jr. returned to her Instagram Story to officially walk back her claims about her ex, NBA YoungBoy. Explaining that she spoke out while she was in a bad headspace, Yaya revealed that she and the rapper have since talked things through.
“Emotions were high and we weren’t seeing eye to eye, but that doesn’t justify it,” she wrote, taking full accountability for her actions. “I reacted out of frustration and I own that.”
The reality of their co-parenting dynamic is much different than what she initially portrayed. Yaya specifically wanted to “correct” the narrative that the rapper isn’t “helping” with their five year old son, Kentrell Jr. “He does help,” she clarified. Anytime I ask him for anything no matter what it is… even if it’s for me he makes it happen.”
She shared that YoungBoy has already committed to paying her back for the costs associated with their son’s recent birthday party, noting that she only lashed out because things weren’t moving as fast as she wanted.
This public apology stems from a series of fiery tweets Yaya posted on Wednesday. In those now deleted messages, she accused YoungBoy of neglecting his financial duties for Kentrell Jr.’s party while spending lavishly on other women. She had originally claimed that her father, Floyd, was the only one footing the bill, tweeting, “You giving hoes money to go shopping… but still haven’t given me money for my son’s birthday party.”
The post immediately went viral, especially considering the rapper is reportedly expecting a third child with his wife, Jazlyn Mychelle.
Ultimately, Yaya realizes that airing their family business was a mistake. She concluded her message by stating that she and YoungBoy are still “learning how to co-parent in a healthy way” for the sake of their son and their personal peace. Our disagreements and emotions are not for the internet,” she added, offering a sincere apology to the rapper for the public dragging.
It looks like the two are focused on handling their business behind closed doors moving forward.
