Beyoncé Said Keep The Partnership, She Wants The Whole Bottle: SirDavis Is Officially All Hers After Moët Hennessy Buyout

SirDavis Whisky now belongs to one person and one person only. Beyoncé has bought out Moët Hennessy’s stake in the premium American whisky brand, ending a partnership that started in 2024 and putting the entire company in her hands.

According to The Spirits Business, Beyoncé now holds complete control over SirDavis, the brand she originally launched alongside the LVMH owned wine and spirits giant. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The timing tells its own story. Per Drinks Intel (https://drinks-intel.com/news/moet-hennessy-hands-over-full-ownership-of-sirdavis-american-whisky-to-beyonce/), Moët Hennessy posted a second straight quarter of revenue growth just one day before the sale was announced, its first back to back growth streak since late 2023. So this was not a case of a struggling brand getting dumped by a parent company looking to cut losses. SirDavis was working. Beyoncé simply decided she wanted all of it.

A spokesperson for the brand framed the split as a graduation rather than a breakup.

“SirDavis starts its new independent chapter, after a nearly four year transformative collaboration through creation, development and launch,” the company said in a statement. The statement went on to describe the brand as now fully woman, family and Black owned, crediting Beyoncé with building on her track record of running companies from the ground up.

That framing matters because it flips the usual celebrity liquor narrative. Most famous name spirits brands stay tethered to the conglomerates that bankroll them. Beyoncé used her leverage the opposite way. She took a brand built with the backing of one of the biggest luxury companies on earth and walked away holding the whole thing.

SirDavis was never just another name slapped on a bottle for a payday. It carries her paternal great grandfather’s name, Davis Hogue, a farmer and moonshiner who worked during Prohibition in the American South. She added the title “Sir” as a nod to a respect Black men in the Jim Crow South were routinely denied. Even the whisky’s mash bill, built from rye and malted barley with no corn at all, was designed to stand apart from typical bourbon in a category dominated by decades old family operations. Now that same SirDavis whisky answers to nobody but her.

There is also a business context worth flagging. Moët Hennessy cut close to 13 percent of its global workforce last year as it worked to right size the business amid softer luxury spending. A parent company trimming costs while a founder buys full ownership of one of its ventures is not the same as a rescue mission. It looks more like Moët Hennessy choosing to concentrate resources on its biggest legacy names, Hennessy cognac, Dom Pérignon, and Krug among them, while Beyoncé bets on herself for the smaller, newer brand she helped build.

That bet fits a pattern. SirDavis whisky was reportedly Moët Hennessy’s first spirits brand developed entirely from scratch in the United States rather than acquired outright, and it sold out fast after its 2024 debut. It later expanded into Asia’s travel retail market and became a fixture during Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter tour, with a limited cocktail kit that reportedly sold out within hours. None of that success happened by accident, and none of it happened without her fingerprints all over the product itself, working alongside master distiller Dr. Bill Lumsden and head blender Cameron George on the actual liquid inside the bottle.

Owning SirDavis Whisky outright now slots neatly into a business portfolio that keeps expanding well past music. Beyoncé already runs Ivy Park in fashion, Cécred in hair care, Parkwood Entertainment as her production company, and the BeyGOOD Foundation, which funds scholarships, disaster relief, and small business grants. Each of those ventures gives her direct ownership stakes rather than simple endorsement checks, and each one builds toward something bigger than a single artist’s brand. SirDavis now joins that list as a fully self owned company, distilled in Indiana and finished, blended, and bottled in her home state of Texas.

For a spirits category still figuring out what a lasting Black owned whisky brand looks like at scale, this buyout gives SirDavis room to grow without a luxury conglomerate’s timeline or shareholder pressure attached. Beyoncé gets to decide what comes next, from pricing to distribution to whatever new expression she wants to release.

She has spent two years proving the whisky can compete on quality with legacy names that have existed for over a century. Now she gets to prove she can run the whole business the same way she has run everything else, on her own terms and in full control.
