FX is keeping the “Snowfall” legacy alive. The network has officially greenlit a new spinoff centered around Wanda and Leon Simmons, with Gail Bean and Isaiah John reprising their original roles. The untitled series is scheduled to premiere in 2026 on both FX and Hulu.
Initially developed in 2023 following the conclusion of “Snowfall’s” six-season run, the spinoff received a pilot order in March 2025. The upcoming series takes place in early ’90s Los Angeles, diving into the aftermath of the crack epidemic. The plot follows a recovering addict determined to bring West Coast rap to the mainstream as gang wars rage and record labels capitalize on hip-hop culture.
Malcolm Spellman, known for his work on “Hip-Hop Uncovered,” is writing and executive producing the project. Returning “Snowfall” producers Dave Andron, Thomas Schlamme, Julie DeJoie, Michael London, and Trevor Engelson are also on board. Andron co-created the original “Snowfall” series with the late John Singleton and Eric Amadio. FX Productions will handle the production.
“This new series takes us back to one of the most formative eras in music with the birth of the West Coast rap revolution,” said Nick Grad, President of FX Entertainment. “We worked with Malcolm Spellman on the documentary series ‘Hip-Hop Uncovered,’ and he has encyclopedic knowledge of this material. This is a breakout starring role for Gail Bean and, as always, Isaiah John is terrific along with the ensemble cast.”
Franklin Saint’s character, famously portrayed by Damson Idris, has not been announced in the new series. However, in the finale of “Snowfall,” Franklin didn’t die, but was instead left in ruin after losing everything. This leaves the door open for him to make an appearance in the spinoff, though fans will have to tune in and see.
