Tom Brady Asked WWE For A Storyline, Then He Slapped Logan Paul The Next Day

The viral moment arrived one day after Brady openly asked WWE to create a storyline for him, making this confrontation look bigger than a simple sports rivalry.

Tom Brady Asked WWE For A Storyline, Then He Slapped Logan Paul The Next Day

The Tom Brady slap that landed across Logan Paul’s face at Fanatics Fest 2026 may have done more than restart a sports beef. Brady and Paul were trading words onstage Friday, July 17, at New York City’s Jacob Javits Center when the retired NFL quarterback suddenly reached forward and struck the WWE star. New York Knicks center Karl Anthony Towns and event staff quickly moved between them before the confrontation could go any further.

Footage released by Fanatics showed Brady and Paul standing face to face before the slap. A separate angle shared by WWE captured Paul telling people around Brady to control him because he could get hurt. The clip immediately spread across social media, although neither man appeared interested in letting the moment end when they left the stage.

The slap quickly became an online roast session. Paul claimed the altercation happened because he was mocking Brady over their previous flag football competition. Paul called Brady a bad example for children before adding, “Aura -100 + Blocked. With a torn tricep.” Brady responded by calling Paul a “dork” and writing, “I tried America… will try again next time I see this nerd.”

This happened bc I was roasting Tom for beating him in flag football. And he tries to smack me ?? Horrible example for the kids

Paul later escalated the performance by posting “I’m suing” with footage of the slap. He continued taunting Brady by claiming the football legend was angry because Paul’s team had beaten him. No court filing or formal legal announcement was identified in the reports surrounding Paul’s social media post, making the statement appear more like another piece of the public exchange than a confirmed lawsuit.

What makes the confrontation especially interesting is what Brady said one day earlier. During an official WWE recording of Cody Rhodes’ podcast, “What Do You Wanna Talk About?,” Brady said he wanted WWE president Nick Khan to develop a storyline that would allow him to compete. The football legend also said he would be comfortable playing a villain and believed he could handle at least one match.

That timing makes the Tom Brady slap look less like a random loss of control and more like a possible audition for the wrestling world. Brady publicly asked WWE for a storyline on Thursday. By Friday, he was standing across from one of the company’s most recognizable crossover performers, delivering a slap in front of cameras while WWE’s social media accounts helped circulate the footage. That does not prove the moment was scripted, but the sequence closely resembles the beginning of a wrestling program designed to blur entertainment and reality.

The friction between Brady and Paul did not begin at Fanatics Fest. Their argument started in February after Paul suggested that his WWE experience made him as athletic as NFL players. Brady reportedly dismissed the comparison as “cute.” The disagreement continued during the player draft for the Fanatics Flag Football Classic, where Brady mocked Paul for using his high school football statistics to support his argument.

The rivalry then moved onto the field in March. The Fanatics Flag Football Classic took place March 21 at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles and marked Brady’s first official return to the field following his retirement. During the tournament, Paul competed with the Wildcats while Brady led the Founders.

The Wildcats eliminated Brady’s Founders with a 34-to-26 victory. Team USA ultimately won the tournament after defeating the Wildcats in the championship game. Paul celebrated the win over Brady online, using the result to provoke the seven-time Super Bowl winner at Fanatics Fest.

The latest Tom Brady slap also arrived while Paul remains away from WWE competition. Paul tore his triceps during the May 23 edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event while teaming with Austin Theory in a World Tag Team Championship defense against the Street Profits. Paul and Theory retained the titles, but the injury forced Paul out of active competition.

Bron Breakker later replaced Paul as Theory’s championship partner while Paul began his recovery. Paul previously said the original recovery estimate was approximately six months, which would keep him away from full contact for a significant portion of 2026.

Paul challenged that timetable during his Friday appearance on ESPN’s First Take. While showing his arm to the camera, Paul asked, “Does that look injured to you?” Paul then declared, “The WWE medical team needs to tune in and medically clear me, because I’m fine. I’m fine,” while arguing that The Vision and WWE needed him back.

Paul eventually offered a more realistic assessment of his condition, saying, “I just need another three to four months.” Paul had already claimed earlier in July that his rehabilitation was progressing faster than expected. He compared his recovery abilities to Wolverine and maintained that he was months ahead of the original schedule.

The injury could delay any physical WWE program involving Brady, but it also gives the company time to build anticipation. The Tom Brady slap now connects several pieces that already existed, including their argument over athleticism, Paul’s flag football victory, Brady’s interest in wrestling, Paul’s eventual WWE return, and both men’s ability to generate attention beyond their original sports. Each new interaction gives WWE more material without requiring the company to announce a match immediately.

For Brady, a program with Paul would offer a familiar opponent who understands celebrity-driven wrestling. For Paul, returning from injury to confront the man who slapped him in front of a live audience would provide an easy storyline that viewers could understand without months of wrestling history. Cody Rhodes told Brady that the invitation to WWE was open, although an official match has not been announced.

Whether the confrontation was real, staged, or something in between, Brady and Paul have successfully transformed a debate about athleticism into a story that now stretches across football, social media, celebrity culture, and professional wrestling.
