Erika Kirk has been appointed to the U.S. Air Force Academy’s Board of Visitors, stepping into the role previously held by her late husband, conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
The Air Force Academy’s Board of Visitors is a 16-member advisory panel that reviews the academy’s operations and provides recommendations to the Secretary of Defense. The group also issues an annual report examining morale among cadets, the school’s financial standing, and academic programs.
Erika’s name recently appeared on the official roster of board members, though the academy did not formally announce her appointment.
Rep. August Pfluger of Texas, who chairs the board, praised the decision in comments to NBC affiliate KOAA.
“Erika is the right person to fill Charlie’s place on the board and continue his work of inspiring the next generation of service members and advancing the academy,” Pfluger said.
He added, “I look forward to working alongside her to carry on Charlie’s legacy,” noting that he recommended her appointment months earlier.
The Board of Visitors includes several members of Congress, including Sen. Markwayne Mullin of Oklahoma, Sen. Tommy Tuberville of Alabama, Sen. Kevin Cramer of North Dakota, Sen. Ted Budd of North Carolina, and Sen. John Hickenlooper of Colorado.
Charlie, the founder of Turning Point USA, joined the board in March 2025 during Trump’s second term. He attended one meeting in August before he was killed in a September 10 shooting at Utah Valley University.
