John Boyega is officially letting the world in on his private family life, and the “Star Wars” actor has been keeping more than one major milestone under wraps. After nearly two years of marriage, the 34-year-old finally shared photos with his wife, actress Tae Heckard, while revealing that the couple has already welcomed their first child together.
On Wednesday, October 14, Boyega surprised Instagram followers with a carousel featuring intimate moments with Heckard, whose full name is Lashontae Heckard. The photos included the couple embracing, Boyega holding his wife’s growing baby bump, and a family moment featuring Heckard’s older son.
However, the biggest surprise came in the final slide, which featured a video of Boyega gently cradling his newborn son and stroking the baby’s head. Although fans had only recently learned that the actor was expecting a child, Boyega revealed that their little boy had actually arrived some time ago.
He captioned the post: “Our bundle of joy has been with us for some time now but thank you for all the well wishes. Also my sister is about to pop! Wish her well too! Back to feeding this big baby!”

The actor did not reveal his son’s name, exact birth date, or additional details about the delivery. Nevertheless, the announcement offered fans their first public glimpse of his new life as a husband and father.
Heckard also celebrated the moment in the comments, writing, “love and blessings to my Blessing!!!!.” Her Instagram profile now identifies her as Tae Boyega, further confirming the relationship that had been the subject of speculation for months.
The family reveal comes just days after Boyega shocked fans by casually announcing that he had secretly gotten married.
During an interview with The Guardian published October 4, the British Nigerian actor was asked about the jewelry on his left hand. Rather than avoiding the question, Boyega disclosed that he had been married for nearly two years.
He explained that he and his wife exchanged vows during a small, private ceremony. One particularly surprising detail involved his wedding ring. Instead of purchasing an extravagant piece from a luxury jeweler, Boyega revealed that the couple spontaneously visited Walmart to pick up a sentimental band because he wanted something on his finger.
Although their original ceremony was intimate, Boyega expressed interest in eventually hosting a much larger traditional Nigerian wedding celebration. He explained that he and his wife would rather celebrate a relationship that has already been established than make a spectacle of its beginning.
At the time of the interview, Boyega also revealed that he had a baby boy on the way and was already embracing fatherhood as a stepfather.
What fans did not realize was that the actor’s new son had apparently already entered the world.
As for Heckard, the 48-year-old actress and model is no stranger to Hollywood. She is best known for portraying Jasmine on BET’s hit series “The Game” and appearing in the 2006 film “ATL.” She has also appeared in the Netflix comedy series “#blackAF.”
Before her relationship with Boyega, Heckard was romantically involved with former NBA player Brandon Jennings. The two share a son, Brandon Byron Jennings Jr., whom she welcomed in November 2015. Boyega has since stepped into the role of stepfather, making their household a blended family.
Interestingly, clues about Boyega and Heckard’s relationship had been circulating long before the actor made things official.
The two were reportedly spotted enjoying time together at Disneyland in April 2025. Fans also noticed that they followed only each other on Instagram, fueling speculation that their connection was more serious than either had publicly acknowledged.
In September 2026, Heckard shared a social media post featuring her reflection in Boyega’s sunglasses. Their playful exchanges in the comments, including jokes about her cooking Nigerian dishes, added to the speculation. However, neither publicly confirmed their marriage at the time.
Now, with the couple finally appearing together in family photographs, fans have a clearer picture of the relationship they managed to keep largely out of the spotlight.
The announcement also arrives during a meaningful period in Boyega’s career. The actor recently participated in the BBC documentary “Damilola: The Untold Story,” which revisits the 2000 killing of his childhood friend Damilola Taylor.
During his interview about the project, Boyega discussed becoming more intentional about prioritizing his personal life over his Hollywood career. He described his family life as fulfilling and expressed his commitment to being present for his wife and children.
Between a secret wedding, a growing blended family, and a baby boy whose arrival remained private until now, Boyega and Heckard have managed to experience several life-changing moments on their own terms.
And while the actor has finally shared his happiness with the public, his latest announcement makes one thing clear: Boyega is enjoying fatherhood far more than he is concerned with keeping fans updated on every detail.
