Years after the film “Gone Girl” took the world by storm, producer Reese Witherspoon has been hit with a lawsuit for stealing the idea from a screenplay called “Out of the Blue.”

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

According to TMZ, Leslie Weller says the film, as well as the book, was a rip off of her screenplay from 2005. The publication says that Weller claims she wrote the screenplay and sent a copy to a script consultant, which then led to the thievery.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Weller says both the screenplay as well as the film focuses on a struggling married couple, where the wife is part of a twist and exposed as a psychopath.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

According to the publication, Weller also cites a scene in the film that is similar to the screenplay that makes you believe the husband might hurt the wife but turns out the wife sets up the husband. She also says the novel is structured the same way as her screenplay.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

As a result, Weller is suing Witherspoon, the movie director, David Fincher, as well the book’s author, Gillian Flynn.
