New Music Friday is in rare form this week, with several high-profile releases across hip-hop and R&B. For those with a diverse ear, there is plenty to choose from.
After weeks of leaked calls, an apology tour, and a deep shake-up in the Atlanta music scene, Young Thug has made his glorious return. “UY Scuti” marks Thugger’s first project since his jail release. He previously unveiled the track “I Miss My Dogs,” a heartfelt apology to his close associates, including Drake, Future, Gucci Mane, and others. The track closes out the 20-song project, which opens with the widely talked-about record “Ninja.” Thug tapped several heavy-hitters for his album, including Cardi B, T.I., Lil Baby, his boo Mariah The Scientist, 21 Savage, Travis Scott, and the most shocking of the lineup, YFN Lucci. After a past beef that spilled over offline, the pair were able to settle their differences for the fans.
Over on the R&B side, Mariah Carey proved that she remains one of the top forces in the game with her sixteenth studio album, “Here For It All.” Across just 11 songs, she packs a punch, tapping Shenseea, Kehlani, The Clark Sisters, and even her rumored boyfriend, Anderson.Paak. The album holds a special place in Carey’s heart, with her revealing that she recorded it while navigating the death of her mother and sister, who died last year on the same day.
Back in the rap lane, YFN Lucci also unveiled “Already Legend,” his first album since his jail release in January. He included a Young Thug feature on the track “Still Waiting.” Lucci also added 21 Savage to the album but chose to keep the features to a minimum across his 21 tracks.
