This week’s New Music Friday proves that hip-hop is balancing legacy, down South chemistry, and even heartbreak, with several releases hitting completely different lanes. From T.I. closing out a legendary rap chapter to GloRilla and Pooh Shiesty bringing Memphis energy back to the forefront, and Rod Wave returning to his emotional bag, today’s drops are built for repeat listens.
T.I. leads the week with “Kill The King,” his twelfth studio album and the project he has long framed as his final rap album. Released through Grand Hustle and EMPIRE, the 18-track album runs 51 minutes and arrives six years after “The L.I.B.R.A.” The project is stacked with features, including Anderson .Paak, The-Dream, 2 Chainz, Jeezy, T-Pain, Summer Walker, Usher, YoungBoy Never Broke Again, Young Dro, and more. After years of carrying the “King of the South” title, Tip appears to be using this album as both a victory lap and a symbolic farewell to the crown.
GloRilla and Pooh Shiesty also reunite Memphis on “Mane,” a hard-hitting single released June 25. The record brings together two of the city’s most recognizable rap voices, with Glo’s commanding delivery pairing with Pooh Shiesty’s street-heavy presence. The release also arrived with an official visual, giving fans a studio-centered look at their chemistry. Produced by London Jae, Squat Beats, and B100, “Man” leans fully into gritty Memphis bounce and sharp back-and-forth energy.
Rod Wave rounds out the week with “Piece Of Your Love,” a vulnerable new release tied to his upcoming album “Don’t Look Down,” currently set for August 28. The song arrives with a short film and sits in Rod’s signature lane: heartbreak, regret, longing, and melodic pain. After opening this era with “Feed The Streets,” “Piece Of Your Love” shifts the focus back to the wounded love songs that made him one of rap’s most emotionally resonant voices.
