Leaders from around the world called today’s violent and chaotic riots at the U.S. Capitol “Disgraceful Scenes.”

Various world leaders watched in horror as mobs of pro-Trump rioters stormed the Capitol as lawmakers were attempting to certify President-elect Joe Biden’s election victory.

According to World Leaders Condemn Chaos At U.S. Capitol, Calling It “Disgraceful Scenes””>Axios, today’s events have caused major embarrassment to the United States, which has always presented itself as the world’s premier example of a well-functioning democracy.

The U.S. Government has long held itself as “Leader of the free world” and is typically the leading voice in condemning the very type of political violence displayed today.

“Disgraceful scenes in U.S. Congress. The United States stands for democracy around the world and it is now vital that there should be a peace,” U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson said of today’s unrest.

While Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said “Canadians are deeply disturbed and saddened by the attack on democracy in the United States, our closest ally and neighbor.”

Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, urged Donald Trump to recognize Joe Biden as the Next President. While French Foreign Minister Jean Yves Le Drian condemned the violence saying,

EU Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell Fontelles best summed up the world’s opinion of the pro-Trump riots saying “In the eyes of the world, American democracy tonight appears under siege. This is an unseen assault on US democracy, its institutions and the rule of law. This is not America. The election results of 3 November must be fully respected.”
