Essence Fest is shaking things up for 2026 by putting the creative direction in the hands of Teyana Taylor.
Organizers officially broke the news that the singer, director, and style icon will serve as the Chief Curator for this year’s event, giving her the power to shape the vibe for one of the biggest cultural celebrations in the country. The move highlights a major shift toward putting women in charge of the executive decisions that happen away from the spotlight.
“We said ladies first, and we meant it. Not just on the stage, but behind the scenes too,” the official statement read. “We are excited to announce Teyana Taylor is stepping in as Chief Curator for the 2026 ESSENCE Festival.”
Teyana won’t be flying solo in this new position. She is bringing her specialized creative production team to make sure every detail of the weekend hits the mark. According to the announcement, Taylor and her crew, known as The Aunties, will oversee “the moments, the surprises, and everything in between.” This partnership suggests that fans can expect a highly stylized and curated experience when the festival touches down in New Orleans from July 3–5.
While Teyana handles the aesthetics, the talent lineup is already looking like a powerhouse of R&B and Hip-Hop. The Evening Concert Series at the Caesars Superdome is leaning heavily into legendary vocals, with a roster that includes Patti LaBelle, Brandy, Monica, and Kehlani. On the rap side, heavy hitters like Cardi B and Latto are also set to hit the stage.
Beyond the main stage, the daytime experience at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center is returning with its usual mix of culture and commerce. Attendees can look forward to the ESSENCE Food & Wine Festival, Beautycon @Essence Fest, and the SOKO MRKT.
